BURRITO DAY
NATIONAL BURRITO DAY! On the first Thursday of April we celebrate the burrito, usually a flour tortilla rolled out and filled with yummy things like beans, salsa, chile, cheese, lettuce, beans, eggs, rice and some kind of meat if you’re an animal consumer. It’s a Mexican dish, named after “little donkey. ” But its unclear if they were named after the donkey or th little bed rolls that were packed on the donkeys, which I think makes more sense. They were first found in 1895 and it is believed they were created by farmers and field workers because they were easy to make and easy to eat on the go. Today we can find burritos all over the world. And the famous breakfast burrito was founded at Tia Sophia’s restaurant in Santa Fe New Mexico. Who wants to have burritos with us today and what’s your favorite kind to eat?

EASTER WEEKEND
EASTER WEEKEND! While many of us know about the Pagan Holiday of Easter, how many of you know about the Famous Easter Bunny. She was a very special bunny and her name was Osterhase or Oschter Haws. Her story comes to us from German Immigrants who reported that she was a hare who would lay colorful eggs and gift them to good children. On Easter children would make nests hoping she would lay her beautiful eggs for them. Sometimes children would even leave carrots out for the hungry hare. Over time her story spread and the magical hare started bringing chocolates and toys to the children as well. Who wants to build a nest with us this year and who believes in the Easter Bunny?

WORLD RAT DAY
WORLD RAT DAY. Although this holiday was celebrated yesterday on April 4th, I didn’t want you to miss out on this important holiday. World Rat day was created by rat enthusiasts who wanted to share some positive light to these amazing creatures. Did you know that Rats have been on this planet for over 50 Million years? Rats are smart, friendly, loyal, super intelligent and they make great pets. Unfortunately, rats have been given a bad reputation and are often thought of as nasty creatures, associated with the plague, as being pests and terribly dirty. But in fact these furry rodents are very loveable, clean and social. So now that you know a bit more about rats, who wants to celebrate with us today? Maybe you can watch our favorite Disney Pixar movie “Ratatouille” where the young rat Remy learns to become a chef in France and eventually opens his own restaurant.

INTERNATIONAL BEAVER DAY
INTERNATIONAL BEAVER DAY It’s International Beaver Day! On April 7th we celebrate the largest rodents in North America. A beaver weighs somewhere between 35 and 65 pounds and are 3 to 4 feet tall when standing. These adorable mammals have orange teeth, and love to eat wood. Although they are famous for the dams they create, beavers are also known for building lodges that have underwater entrances with multiple living quarters. These cute guys can remain underwater for up to eight minutes and they slap their tails to signal danger and scare away predators. Who wants to celebrate these amazing flat-tailed creatures with us today and spread the word about these beautiful animals and help protect the wetlands where they dwell?

Brief History:
Poutine, a mouth-watering dish of fries smothered in gravy and topped with cheese curds, proudly hails from Quebec, Canada. First emerging in the late 1950s, there are several tales about its invention, but all agree that this dish quickly became a beloved staple in Canadian cuisine. From its humble beginnings in rural Quebec diners and snack bars, poutine has now taken the world by storm, with variations appearing on menus globally.

The word “poutine” is Quebecois slang for “a mess.” But anyone who’s tasted it knows that this “mess” is a delightful combination of flavors and textures that’s anything but messy in taste! 🎉
