PRIDE MONTH
NATIONAL PRIDE MONTH Pride Month is celebrated every June ๐๏ธ, a month dedicated to honoring the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan and the broader LGBTQ+ rights movement.
Brief History:
The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York City ๐. These riots are considered a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in the U.S. Since then, June has been a month to celebrate love, diversity, acceptance, and the continuous journey toward equal rights ๐.
Fun Fact:
Did you know the original Pride flag, designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978, had eight colors? ๐จ Each color had a specific meaning, from pink for sex to violet for spirit. Over time, the flag evolved into the six-striped version most are familiar with today!
Celebrate love, celebrate diversity, celebrate YOU. Happy Pride Month! โค๏ธ๐งก๐๐๐๐๐ค๐ค๐ค
